The Problems We Actually Fix in Swadlincote

Specialist dog behaviour training for reactive dogs, aggression, and serious issues other trainers avoid. Serving South Derbyshire, Burton-on-Trent, and surrounding areas.

Reactive & Aggressive Dogs

Your reality: Every walk is stressful. Your dog explodes at other dogs, lunges at people, and you're constantly apologising. You've tried treat-based training - they behave when you've got food, then go straight back to being reactive.

What we do: We don't bribe your dog into compliance. We fix the character issue causing the reactivity. Using the NeMo method, we create a calm, neutral dog that can handle environmental pressure - cars, people, other dogs - without losing their mind.

Result: Confident walks. No more crossing the street. A dog that actually listens because they respect you, not because you've got a treat.

Resource Guarding & Aggression

Your reality: Food aggression. Toy guarding. Space guarding. Your dog growls, snaps, or worse when you go near their stuff. Trainers tell you to "manage" it - keep them away from triggers. That's not a solution.

What we do: Resource guarding is a character flaw, not a personality trait. We build trust and respect between you and your dog through clear communication and leadership-based training. No treats to distract them - we actually fix the underlying insecurity and control issues.

Result: A dog that trusts you completely. No more walking on eggshells around food bowls or toys.

Lead Pulling & Impulse Control

Your reality: You're being dragged down the street. Your dog pulls, chases, reacts to every distraction. You've tried harnesses, head collars, treat training - they work for 5 minutes, then you're back to square one.

What we do: Lead pulling isn't a physical problem - it's a respect and communication problem. We teach impulse control and clear leadership without artificial motivation. Your dog learns to walk beside you because they respect and trust you as their leader, not because you're waving chicken at them.

Result: Loose lead walking. A dog that actually listens. Walks you actually enjoy.

The NeMo Method: Character Over Compliance

Here's the truth about reactive dog training in Swadlincote that other trainers won't tell you: you can't fix an anxious, stressed, or overstimulated dog with treats and toys.

Most dog trainers focus on commands and compliance. Sit. Stay. Come. Here's a treat. Good dog. But if your dog's nervous system is fried, if their character is fundamentally insecure or overstimulated, none of that matters.

That's why treat-based training fails with reactive dogs. You're bribing behaviour, not fixing the root cause.

We're CPD-certified in the NeMo method - a training system that fixes dog behaviour without artificial motivation. No treats. No toys. Just clear communication built on trust and respect - the two pillars your dog understands from the minute they're born.

We don't enhance or use drives to train dogs. We create calm, neutral, balanced dogs that can handle everything around them. We build real bonds between owners and dogs through trust, respect, and clear communication. Trust and respect are the pillars we work from. We fix character, not mask symptoms.

Meet the Team

CPD-certified NeMo trainers working with reactive and aggressive dogs across South Derbyshire.

Matt - Dog Trainer MJK9

Matt

Co-Founder & NeMo Trainer

Matt's journey into dog training started when his own Staffordshire Bull Terrier began showing behavioural issues - lunging at people, over-friendly to the point of being a problem. He tried different training systems, but nothing truly fixed it. Everything required treats, distractions, or redirection. The behaviour was managed, not resolved.

That's when he discovered the NeMo method. It was different. Simple, effective, clear communication the dog actually understands. It didn't just change his dog's behaviour - it changed their entire relationship. He realised he'd been creating problems himself through how he was training her.

Before dog training, Matt served in the Army. He started helping dogs on camp, then shadowed professional trainers to get a real taste for the work. Now, it's the most fulfilling thing he's ever done. Watching owners and dogs progress from where they started - seeing them finally able to enjoy life together - that's what makes it worthwhile.

Matt also fostered a reactive Patterdale rescue who was going to be drowned in a river. The dog was young, terrified of everything, reactive to most things. After a few weeks of work, a couple came to see him and he went off to live his best life. That's the work that matters.

Paul - Dog Trainer MJK9

Paul

Co-Founder & NeMo Trainer

Paul's been around dogs since he was a kid. If his family couldn't find him, he'd be curled up asleep in the dog basket or out in the garden with them. He's always been interested in dog training but never knew the avenues to take - until one of his current dogs, a rescue with no history and an aggressive nature, got turned down by local trainers. That's when he decided to learn properly.

He chose the NeMo method because it's the closest to how dogs were trained for real work - gun dogs, herding dogs on farms. It's a method that's been used for years, not some new gimmick. Before dog training, Paul worked with animals on farms - pigs, sheep, cows, boars up to 450kg with razor-sharp tusks, bulls over 750kg. Not domesticated. Dangerous if you didn't read them right.

He once turned around a failed sheepdog trials Collie that would split the flock and drive them away. After some hard work, the dog would bring the flock in - nothing like the chaos of the first day when they spent hours trying to get the sheep back. Paul's worked with people too, teaching outdoor activities, once helping a 98% blind person shoot and hit targets with their friends.

Recently diagnosed as neurodivergent with Complex PTSD, Paul understands the anxiety of not wanting to take your dog out because you don't know how they'll react to outside pressures. He's been there. His two current dogs - a German Shepherd and a Springer cross Labrador - both became reactive. One wanted to play, the other out of aggression. Now they can enjoy walks without any reactivity, on or off lead. That's what this work is about.

Why We Do This

Seeing the change in dogs and their owners. Watching confidence grow as they work through the pressures of everyday life together. Building the bond, trust, and relationship that should have been there from the start. That's what makes it worthwhile.

We trained under Pro K9, completing intensive CPD-accredited NeMo system mentorship in September 2025. This isn't a weekend course - it's a comprehensive system built on thousands of hours of work with reactive, aggressive, and difficult dogs.
